 'beginner' |  'more experienced idiot' |
Just a short post - as busy preparing for my February 11th show!
Someone making an equiry via this website asked me a question concerning how much experience they had /didn't have and here is how I answered:
When I advertise courses I often include this sentence: ‘the course is open to beginners as well as the more experienced idiot'.
In my opinion, newcomers bring the freshness of 'beginners mind' and those with more experience show what is possible.
On a Clown & Dark Clown course, everyone is at the cusp of adventure - sometimes those with more experience can also be nervous (if they perceive that they have something to lose or measure up to).
I mention at the start of each course how we are all working with courage (and maybe even a sparkling little frisson of fear!) at our growing edge. I also mention how I seek to encourage and challenge people at the level they are at individually.
I remember with delight an IT specialist, a female business owner and a tree surgeon (among other 'beginners' on various courses) bringing joy, openness and possibility into the room!
